"I was very surprised to find out that, pretty much in all cases, I was the only person reporting the site," said Eckelberry, who is president of Clearwater, Fla.-based anti-spyware toolmaker Sunbelt Software. "You would think a lot of stuff like this goes on, but it actually doesn't."

Eckelberry's frustration was shared by Paul Laudanski of CastleCops, an online security community. The two joined forces and this week, Sunbelt and CastleCops are officially launching a volunteer group, dubbed the Phishing Incident Reporting and Termination squad, or PIRT.

In the round-the-clock PIRT operation, the volunteer "handlers" around the world take in reports from consumers of suspected phishing Web sites and work to take the sites offline. On Friday, before its official launch, the group received 100 phishing reports, and 30 of those were shut down in a few hours, Laudanski said.

"We want to give the average consumer a way to jump in and help," Eckelberry said. "It is a personal passion because I know my mom is the kind of person who will click on this phishing link, no matter how many times I warn her."

Phishing outline
Phishing is a prevalent type of online scam in which attackers attempt to steal sensitive data such as user names, passwords and credit card details. The attacks typically combine spam e-mail and fraudulent Web pages that look like legitimate sites. That spells easy money for criminals, who sell the data they steal or use it to buy goods for resale, for example.

There are already a couple of places people can report suspected Web sites. There are add-on toolbars or built-in features in Web browsers that let people click and submit a URL. If these check out, they're added to a blacklist used by the company that provides the toolbar. That means the phishing information can be scattered among different software providers.

Alternatively, scam e-mails can be submitted to the Anti-Phishing Working Group, which stores the information in a database used by makers of security software and others, but takes no further action. The APWG, an effort backed by security companies, financial services providers and others, includes Symantec, McAfee and Microsoft as sponsors.

Despite industry efforts, phishing is still on the rise, and experts predict that scams will become increasingly sophisticated. A record 9,715 phishing Web sites were spotted in January, according to an Anti-Phishing Working Group paper (PDF here). The PIRT group aims to get consumers more involved in the phishing fight and bring down malicious sites more quickly.

The PIRT handlers, who must all have an established security track record, will analyze phishing e-mails and contact the host of the Web site, usually an Internet service provider, as well as the company whose customers are being targeted, Eckelberry said.

Additionally, the volunteers will share phishing reports with security companies, the Anti-Phishing Working Group and other efforts that exist to fight the scams, he said.

"We do not want to discount any of those efforts," Eckelberry said. "This is an additional layer to pick up any reports that were not submitted. We are seeing a large number of cases where phishing attacks are not reported."

Für sogenannte Browsergames braucht man keine teure Hardware und keinen modernen PC. Sie werden einfach über das Internet gespielt und kosten meistens nichts. wdr.de erklärt den neuen Hype.

Browsergames werden von beiden Geschlechtern gespielt. Übersichtliche Tabellen füllen den Bildschirm. Unterbrochen werden sie nur von zeilenlangen Textpassagen. So sehen die Browsergames aus. Sie sind nichts anderes als textlastige Managerspiele, in denen die User verwalten, einkaufen und strategisch planen müssen. Und obwohl es diese Games-Form bereist zu Zeiten des Commodore 64 gab, erleben die Browser-games derzeit einen enormen Zulauf an neuen Teilnehmern. Denn während ein Computerspiel aus dem Laden üblicherweise rund 60 Euro kostet, gibt es die Webgames gratis im Internet. Nicht einmal ein Herunterladen von Daten oder das Installieren von Programmen ist nötig. Gebraucht wird lediglich ein Internetanschluss. Der User muss sich dann nur noch auf einer Webseite anmelden und kann sofort losspielen - und das in der Regel kostenlos. Dabei kann der Spieler in die Rolle eines Fußballmanagers, Eishockeymanager, Hockeymanager, Formel 1 Managers, eines Feldherrn, eines Gangsters oder sogar eines Mafiabosses schlüpfen. Es gibt Dutzende von unterschiedlichen Browsergames zur Auswahl.

"Spieler ersteigern virtuelle Rohstoffe"

Bis zu 600 Euro werden für virtuelle Gegenstände geboten. Einen wahren Ansturm verzeichnet zur Zeit vor allem das webbasierte Spiel "Inselkampf". Hier spielen inzwischen über 200.000 User online gegeneinander. Die Regeln des Web-games sind dabei recht simpel, erklärt Erfinder Sven Schramm aus Wülfrath: "Jeder neue Teilnehmer bekommt eine virtuelle Insel zugeteilt, die er verwalten muss. Der Ertrag aus gebauten Goldminen oder Sägewerken bringt dem virtuellen Inselpächter im Gegenzug lebensnotwendige Rohstoffe." Sobald eine vernünftige Infrastruktur auf dem Eiland geschaffen ist, kann der Spieler anfangen, Schiffe zu bauen und Armeen zu bilden. "Damit können sich die Teilnehmer des Spiels dann gegenseitig angreifen", so Schramm. Bis zu acht Stunden verbringen manche "Inselkämpfer" inzwischen vor dem PC-Bildschirm und mittlerweile wechseln sogar regelmäßig virtuelle Gegenstände wie Katapulte, Soldaten oder Rohstoffe in Internet-Auktionen den Besitzer.

Browserspiel als Kontaktbörse

Etwas beschaulicher geht es bislang noch beim Dortmunder Browserspiel "World of Dungeons" zu. Hier treffen sich insgesamt 20.000 Gamer online, um in einer Fantasy-Welt mit Kriegern oder Bogenschützen gegen Orks, Goblins oder Drachen zu kämpfen. Doch auch hier wächst die Zahl der Mitspielenden täglich. "World of Dungeons"-Erfinder Christian Neise: "Bei diesem Spiel ist es wichtig, sich online mit menschlichen Mitspielern zusammen zu tun, um die Abenteuer gemeinsam zu bestreitet." So kommt es, dass sich eine feste Community häufig nicht nur zum Spielen, sondern auch zum gemütlichen Plausch im Forum trifft. "Die Leute mögen es einfach, ohne viel Aufwand zocken zu können und gleichzeitig mit vielen anderen menschlichen Teilnehmern zusammen sein zu können." Eine Entwicklung, die vielen Browserspiele-Machern auffällt: Die webbasierten Spiele sind nicht nur Tummelplatz für Zocker, sondern auch Treffpunkt für Chatter und Singles.

Spielekomfort nur gegen Bares

Grafisch eines der besten Browsergames: 'Second Home'. Und weil der Spiele-Markt so boomt, haben ihn die Spiele-Entwickler inzwischen auch als Geldquelle entdeckt. So ist zwar fast jedes kostenlose Online-Spiel nutzbar, doch es gibt üblicherweise auch einen "Premium-Account", der durchschnittlich drei Euro pro Monat kostet. Zahlende User werden von Werbe-Webseiten verschont und haben im Spiel Zugriff auf einige Extra-Features. "Die bringen aber keine Spielvorteile, sondern bringen nur mehr Benutzerkomfort", erklärt Spiele-Entwickler Stefan Link, dessen Game "Second Home" auf dem Prinzip des Spiele-Klassikers "Die Siedler" basiert. Knapp 3.000 Zocker versammeln sich bei ihm pro Spielrunde vor dem Bildschirm und viele nutzen dabei den Premium-Account. Leben kann Stefan Link davon zwar noch nicht, aber sein insgesamt 14-köpfiges Team spart nicht an pfiffigen Ideen. Zahlende User können deshalb seit einiger Zeit aktuelle Geschehnisse direkt auf ihrem Handy oder Mobiltelefon mitverfolgen. Sie bekommen vom Spiel automatisch Nachrichten über die neuesten Entwicklungen zugeschickt. "Das kommt bei den Spielern gut an", so Link.

Bedenkliche Teilnahmebedingungen

Der Vorteil der Browsergames: Teure Hardware ist nicht nötig. Etwas weniger begeistert von den Online-Games zeigt sich allerdings die Verbraucherzentrale NRW. Jurist Jürgen Schröder hat sich dort mit den Webseiten der Onlinegames beschäftigt. Dabei ist ihm aufgefallen, dass die Allgemeinen Geschäftsbedingungen (AGB) manchmal "recht willkürlich sind". So erklären viele Online-Spielebetreiber, dass sie sich das Recht vorbehalten, jederzeit den Spielbetrieb unangekündigt zu schließen - zahlende Spieler bekämen ihr Geld dabei aber nicht zurück. "Darauf haben sie aber einen Anspruch", sagt Schröder. Auch enthalten manche AGB Klauseln, die die Weitergabe von Daten zu Werbezwecken erlauben. "Das geschieht aber in einer Form, die gegen den Datenschutz verstößt." Die Liste der unwirksamen Klauseln in den Geschäftsbedingungen kann dabei von Spiel zu Spiel recht lang werden. Von daher ist es ratsam, sich die Teilnahmebedingungen genau durchzulesen, bevor man sich für ein Spiel anmeldet.

19C3: Riesen-Spaß mit Online-Spielen

Gerade in der Vorweihnachtszeit blühten sie wieder auf: die von Marketingabteilungen großer Firmen ersonnenen Online-Gewinnspiele, die das Image aufmöbeln und Kunden begeistern sollen. Doch auch wenn sich die Designer viel Mühe mit der, im Browser Spiel, Grafik machen und schier alles aus Browser Games Flash und anderen multimedialen Webapplikationen herausholen, vernachlässigen sie gleichzeitig häufig den Sicherheitsbereich. Die Freaks haben die Ergebnisse ihrer Spiele-Analyse in einem auf dem Congress kursierenden und auch heise online vorliegenden Dokument säuberlich und mit Screen-Shots angereichert belegt. Die große Lücke "bei fast allen Spielen" dieser Art im Web oder Web Games besteht demnach darin, dass die Applikationen über "keinerlei Checksummen verfügen und die Ergebnisse dann einfach ungeprüft zum Server senden". Den Experten, die unter dem in unterschiedlichen Formen geschriebenen Pseudonym "Peter Lustig" ans Werk gingen, gelang es dank dieser Unachtsamkeit ihre Highscores ganz nach oben zu setzen.

Nun eventuell auf einen Hacker, denn der in "Dichtenburg" wohnhafte Herr Lustig schlug sich hervorragend, füllte seine Spielstände gehörig auf und hat laut der aufgezeichneten Glückwunschmeldung eine "Chance auf den Hauptgewinn". Ferner hinterließen die kreativen Freaks den "karitativen" Wunsch mitsamt "Grüßen vom 19C3", "dass jemand diese Applikation sicher programmieren würde, ohne dass sich die Spielewerte ändern lassen".

Noch einfacher gestaltete sich die Einnahme einer Führungsposition beim "Full of Energy Game" des Schoko-Malz-Drinks Ovomaltine auf einem schweizerischen Server. Hier gilt es, Energiepunkte beim Wintersport in einer zackigen Alpenkulisse zu sammeln, um einen Platz "an der Mega-Party 'Slide&Snow&Dance'" im schönen Gstaad zu erringen. Wie die Hacker notieren, reichte es dabei aus, "lediglich ein wenig zu manipulieren". Danach hatten sie "mal so locker mehr als alle Sieger zusammen". Wie das passende Bildschirmfoto zeigt, führt "peterlustig" denn auch die Wochenrangliste haushoch an. Am Ende erinnern die Spieletester daran, dass doch schon Browser Gamescracking gezeigt habe, dass es mit der Sicherheit im Internet Spielesektor nicht sonderlich gut stehe. Sie schließen mit der Bitte, "sich ein wenig mehr Gedanken" beim Programmieren der Online Games-Applikationen zu machen.

Seit vielen Jahren spiele ich bereits Browser Games. Anfangs habe ich eher
Sport Spielen, wie Fussball Manager,
Eishockey Manager oder
Hockey Manager gespielt. Diese Spiele machten mir viel Spaß, konnten
aber meinen unbefriedigten Durst an Online Games nicht stillen.



Ich suchte also im Internet nach anderen Browser Spielen. Ich muss

Strategie Spiele. Ich fand zum einen das

richtig geil.



Natürlich hab ich mich gleich bei diesen zwei Web Games angemeldet. Neben dem
Computer spielen habe ich auch noch andere Hobbys. Ich beschäftige mich in meiner Freizeit
viel mit Rassekatzen, Beachvolley, aber auch
mit Vulkanen und asiatischen Kampfsportarten.

The earthquake, which sent tremors as far east as New Delhi, the Indian capital, and west to Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, was the biggest to strike the country in a century, Dr. Chaudhry said.

The top police official of the North-West Frontier Province, Riffat Pasha, said Saturday evening that the death toll there continued to rise and that relief efforts had been stymied by blocked roads and broken communication channels.

"The situation is very, very bad," he said. "There are bodies lying everywhere. Those who have survived are lying in the open without food, shelter or medicine.

"The situation has been made worse by the rain and hailstorm that followed the earthquake," he continued. "There is no way we can reach out to them."

Private television stations showed images of leveled houses in the Pakistani side of Kashmir. Telephone lines remained down, and roads were blocked because of landslides. Torrential rain on Saturday evening was likely to impede relief efforts.

In the Indian-held section of the disputed Kashmir region, the death toll climbed to more than 240 by Saturday evening, including more than 30 Indian soldiers standing sentry at the disputed frontier. An untold number of houses were flattened, telephone lines and electricity were disrupted, and several roads were blocked by landslides, cutting the Kashmir Valley off from the rest of the country. The quake also destroyed a number of religious shrines, mosques and temples.

The death toll in Pakistan included 200 soldiers in the Pakistani-controlled section of Kashmir, Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Sherpao said in a CNN interview.

In Rawalpindi, a school for girls collapsed, killing one child and injuring six, said Sheik Rashid Ahmed, the information minister.

In eastern Afghanistan, four children were crushed to death and a woman was injured as the mud walls of their homes collapsed. News from remote mountainous areas near the border with Pakistan could take days to reach the provincial capitals.

Islamabad was in panic, and people spilled onto the streets. Traffic jams clogged roads, and residents huddled in groups outside houses, shopping plazas and government buildings. The cellphone network collapsed for at least 90 minutes.

Margalla Towers, an upscale five-tower apartment complex, took the city's biggest hit from the quake. One tower collapsed, and part of another fell. Army and civil authorities reached the site within 30 minutes. Rescue workers estimated that at least 150 people, mostly women and children, were stranded under the rubble of the building.

President Musharraf visited the apartment complex in Islamabad with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz. General Musharraf expressed satisfaction with the rescue operation.

"It is a test for all of us," he said in an interview on state television. "We are sure we will pass this test."

Most guys are a little forgetful when it comes to romance. Let's face it, the male idea of fore-play is watching the Dallas Texas Cheerleaders, and drinking a beer. "Der Wildwuchs, der da stattgefunden hat, stellt insgesamt ein Ärgernis dar", sagte der Präsident der Regulierungsbehörde, Matthias Kurth, im Gespräch mit der Nachrichtenagentur AP in Bonn. Dank des neuen "Gesetzes zur Bekämpfung des Missbrauchs von (0)190er/(0)900er Mehrwertdiensterufnummern" hat die Behörde nun das notwendige Instrument in der Hand.

"Inhalte dürfen uns nichts angehen"
Kurth enthält sich moralischer Wertungen über die angebotenen Inhalte. Ob die teuren Nummern Sex-Geplauder oder den Service eines Computerherstellers abrechnen, spielt für ihn keine Rolle. "Der Mehrwertdienstemarkt ist ein recht großer Markt. Es gibt ja nicht nur Missbrauch. Wenn jemand so viel Geld für irgendwelche Leistungen zahlen will - wir dürfen und können uns nicht um die Inhalte kümmern. Das darf uns nichts angehen."

Preisansagen sind Pflicht

Wahlweise kann der Anbieter auch zeitunabhängig 30 Euro pro Anruf berechnen. Höhere Preise sind nur noch zulässig, wenn der Verbraucher sich über Eingabe einer PIN wie am Bankautomaten ausdrücklich einverstanden erklärt. Die PIN vergibt der Diensteanbieter.

Außerdem müssen Mehrwertdienstenummern bei der Regulierungsbehörde registriert sein. Der Verbraucher kann bei der Behörde Auskunft bekommen, wer sich hinter der Nummer verbirgt. Ist sie nicht registriert, besteht nach Auffassung von Kurth auch keine Zahlungspflicht.

Für sie hat die Regulierungsbehörde erheblich verschärfte Vorschriften erlassen und bereits im Oktober fast 400.000 solche Einwahlnummern gesperrt. Kurth will unterbinden, dass derartige Dialer vom Nutzer unbemerkt auf den Computer geladen werden und die Internetverbindung auf ein teures Angebot umleiten. Deshalb müssen registrierte Dialer am Computer anzeigen, wenn sie eine Verbindung herstellen.

Zudem dürfen Dialer seit 14. Dezember nur noch mit 09009 beginnende Nummern anwählen. Die alten 0190er Dialer und alle Dialer in andern Rufnummerngassen sind seitdem illegal. Für sie muss nach Überzeugung von Kurth nicht mehr bezahlt werden. Praxisnahe Hinweise für den Kampf gegen Dialer und andere Abzocke finden sich in der Broschüre "Was tun bei Rufnummernmissbrauch" auf der Internetseite der Behörde.
